| GUIDED TOUR The Alfredo Kraus Auditorium and Canary Islands Convention Centre was opened on the 5th December 1997. As author and director of the project, the architect Oscar Tusquets used the spectacular location offered by the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria at the extreme western end of its Las Canteras beach to maximum advantage. To a singular architectural creation was added the no less original work of the sculptor Juan Bordes who re-created the marine fauna of Las Canteras on the four façades of the building and in its interior. This building fulfils the dual function of Auditorium and Convention Centre: as an auditorium, the spectacular Symphonic Hall is regularly the setting for concerts performed by great orchestras and soloists of international renown as well as performances of modern music; as a Convention Centre it is used for conventions, congresses, festivals and international gatherings of all types.
