‘GEORGIA MASS CHOIR’ BRINGS IN DECEMBER THE BEST GOSPEL TO ALFREDO KRAUS AUDITORIUM


• This choir, founded in 1983 comprises 25 voices. It accompanied Whitney Houston in ‘The wife of the preacher’ and performed in the inaugural and closure ceremony of the Olympics games of Atlanta in 1996

The Georgia Mass Choir will perform on December 12th at 9:00 PM in the Symphonic Hall of the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium. This concert is organized by the Auditorium’s Foundation of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and sponsored by Mapfre Guanarteme Foundation and Heineken.

The Georgia Mass Choir is made up by 25 voices, it was founded by Reverend Milton Biggham in the city of Georgia in 1983, but it was not famous until 1996. It became internationally renowned for its performances in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic games of Atlanta, and its collaboration with artist as Stevie Wonder or Whitney Houston in ‘The wife of the preacher’. In its album there are three songs from the movie for the CD Georgia Mass Choir: Greatest Hits (edited by Savoy Records). This recording reached the first place in January 1997 in the top Gospel Billboard chart.

That same year, the choir was nominated for the Stellar, Grammy and Dove awards, and it won along with Whitney Houston the NAACP prize. It performed with this singer and with Stevie Wonder in the gala Celebrated the Dream: 50 Years of Ebony, nationally broadcasted in the USA. It has appeared in TV shows in ABC (Good Morning America), and in the NBC (Saturday Night Live). In April and May, they took part in the Beacon Theatre in the Broadway musical ‘Why Good Girls Like Bad Boys’.

The success and great critics received by the Georgia Mass Choir has been renowned by international media: Los Angeles Times, Jet, USA Today, The New York Daily News, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, or BRE and Gospel Today.

Reverend Milton Biggham, composer and soloist, has worked in the creation of Savoy Records, but he came back home with the idea of creating a larger choir with over 600 applicants. The Georgia Mass Choir recorded at first with Savoy, and it launched its first album ‘Yes, he can’, in the middle 80’s. Other many works would follow as: We’ve got the victory (1988), Lord, take me through (1995), Hold on (1997), they that wait (1999), I owe you praise (2002), or Tell it (2007). In the early 90’s, the group became famous as one of the most outstanding gospel choirs of the United States of America.
