The Canary Big Band brings to the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium the best jazz musicians of the islands | |

• About seventeen musicians participate in this new project of the Canary Big Band, promoted by Kike Perdomo and Yul Ballesteros, and conducted by Dick Oatts. This ensemble performs its first repertoire which will become a recording and a video • El Rincón del Jazz of the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium will host this concert on October 10th at 22:30 h, at San Borondón Hall El Rincón del Jazz of the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium will be the stage for the Canary Big Band, a project that tries to go beyond the island extend by getting together the best jazz musician of the Archipelago. It’ll be on October 10th, at 22:30 h, in San Borondón Hall. The Canary Big Band’s project is promoted by Kike Perdomo and Yul Ballesteros and conducted by Dick Oatts (one of the conductors of the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra of New York), they will perform its first repertoire to be recorded and filmed. “We have always had some ideas about it, but Kike and I came out with something more global with musicians from everywhere”, addressed Yul Ballesteros. The ensemble is comprised by 17 musicians: Ramón Díaz (drums), Luismo Valladares (double bass), José Alberto Medina (piano), Yul Ballesteros (guitar), Dick Oatts, Roberto Albrecia, Kike Perdomo, Jose A. Vera and Norberto Arteaga (sax), Julián Díaz, Chano Gil, Eddie Díaz and Idafe Perez (trumpet);and Santi Gonzalez, Cristo Delgado, Juan Bosco and Darío Gonzalez(trombone). The Canary Big Band will play in Gran Canaria, but soon this promising performance will get to visit many other cities as: Barcelona, Madrid and Berlin. Though The Canary Islands is a meeting point of many cultures, Canary musicians have always emigrated in the last 20 years to jazz schools all around the world. Nowadays there’s a generation with a 20-year experience in the professional world and others have recently earned their degrees in the Superior School of Jazz, they all got together in this project. An initiative of Kike Perdomo and Yul Ballesteros Kike Perdomo was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on November 6th 1961; he started a self-taught musical education aged 9. In his birth town he received sol-fa, harmony, flute, improvisation and composing classes with Professor Luis Vecchio from the Berklee School of Music of Boston (USA). In the year 1980, Perdomo studies sol-fa and flute in the Superior Conservatoire of Music in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where later on, he’d receive sax classes with Professor Maximiano Vera. After collaborating with famous artists as Luz Casal, Miguel Ríos and Joaquín Sabina in different projects, since 1998 he has combined his concerts with his work as musical producer and sound engineering in the Multitrack Studio. This large experience with recording systems (Adat, Protools, microphonia, etc.) led him to create his own producing and recording studio where he tapes and mixes many CD’s made in the Canary Islands. Yul Ballesteros is musician, composer and producer. He started his education at the age of 10 in Gran Canaria, and after studying three years in Madrid, he got a scholarship by the Berklee College of Music of Boston, where he earned his degree in May 2007. Yul has collaborated with musicians as: Kevin Mahogany, Dave Samuels, Dave Santoro, Phil Grenadier and Joe Magnarelli, among others. In Spain he has shared the stage with jazz musicians as: Luis Vecchio, Kike Perdomo, Carlos López Quinteto, Gran Canaria Big Band or Charlie Moreno. He has also joined and recorded with many pop, rock and reggae ensembles. In October 2007 he recorded in New York along with his sextet his first soloist work: ‘121 Park Drive’, which came out in February 2008. At present, he outstands for being one of the most important guitarists in the Canaries.
