‘TEQUILA COMES BACK’ TO AUDITORIO ALFREDO KRAUS | |
• The concert ‘Vuelve Tequila’ (Tequila comes back) will be celebrated on January 21st at 9:00 PM at Symphony concert hall at Auditorio Alfredo Kraus. Tickets are on sale now. • Twenty five years after leaving the stages, Tequila gets together to remember its songs with its new and old fans. On January 21st at 9:00 PM ‘Tequila comes back’ to Auditorio Alfredo Kraus. In this occasion, the old members of one of the most important national rock groups get together to play their former songs. Tequila changed Spanish rock parameters in the late 70’s, and was considered the joint to receive the 80’s. Its music was about common and daily problems: wait for your girl, not getting involved in fights, running into somebody astonishing, satisfying your desires at all costs, face your parents and adult society. They sang in an informal way, with no suppressions. One day, Alejo Stivel, the vocalist of Tequila, called Ariel Rot to propose him the reunion of the band, Ariel didn’t know what to say about it. After a meeting, Ariel started to like the idea of being the group’s guitarist. In this reunion to play Tequila’s songs will perform Alejo Stivel (voice), Ariel Rot (guitar), Daniel Griffin (drums) Jose Luis Hernandez (bass), Jesus Rodriguez (guitarist, standing in for Julian Infante), and Mauricio Mietta (keyboards). Tequila was one of the first groups in introduce rock in Spanish. Ariel Rot and Alejo Stivel brought from Buenos Aires themes of many Argentinean composers, and also an ambitious idea: the possibility of developing simple rock with the capability of seducing the young people discovering freedom’s pleasures. Themes like ‘Salta’ (‘jump’), were played the first time in the famous TV show ‘Un, dos, tres... responda otra vez’, ‘Quiero besarte’ (‘I want to kiss you’), ‘Dime que me quieres’ (‘Say you want me’) or ‘Rock and Roll en la plaza de un pueblo’ (‘Rock and Roll in the town’s square’), catapulted the members of Tequila to the showbiz. Their sound reference was evident: the Rolling Stones. But they were air-freshened Stones, with no vicious, non fat or arrogance. Tequila had potential, it smelled like success. It was about setting up ‘Tequilamania’, and they did it. The group was surrounded by the crowd, with girls screaming and posters everywhere. ‘Matricula de honor’, its first album, show them in its sleeve as bad boys –long hair and ties – in a tiny classroom; in the back sleeve, individual photos of the five members in casual wear and excessive make-up. The opening song of the album was ‘Rock & roll en la plaza del pueblo’ (‘Rock and Roll in he town’s square’) and it was a perfect metaphor. The concert at Auditorio Alfredo Kraus will be the second one offered by the group in Gran Canaria, the first one was in ‘La Gallera of Lopez Socas’ in the early 80’s. Now is a good moment to remember those glorious and turbulent times. Tequila was an essential element in the sentimental education of millions of Spanish people, and a measurement guide to compare any other subsequent group. Tickets for the concert of Tequila are available from January 1st 2009 at: Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:30 to 20:30 h, Monday to Friday; and from 10:00 to 14:00 h on Saturdays.
